My journey here
After seeing numerous patients with diseases that could have been avoided or better coped with if they had a healthy weight, I became self-conscious about my weight and belly fat. I decided to lose some weight hoping that will help me get rid of my belly fat.
Like everyone out there, I thought that eating more fruits and vegetables and exercising were all I needed to lose weight. Oh! I was so wrong because that was just scratching the surface.
After a few weeks of slow progress, I started searching for “how to lose weight fast” on google and youtube. I tried a lot of suggestions. Name the diet! and I’ve probably tried it.
I searched high and low for free meal plans and I even went ahead to pay 2 Coaches at two different times. In dollars ooo. Serious money!!! Because I was desperate and I felt I could modify the diet to our common Nigerian meals.
I lost weight and belly fat but I could not sustain the weight.
The Struggle Before Success
Most of the diets and my paid programs were amazing. It just could not fit into my lifestyle. I’m a practicing medical doctor with a busy schedule. I don’t have time or money to spend on foods that are not readily available.
Sometimes I don’t get to eat until the close of work. There were times I packed my lunch to work and I could not eat it due to my busy schedule. Forcing myself to eat 4-5 times a day on a weight loss diet was a major struggle for me. I just could not keep up.
Don’t even get me started on meal prepping! I will create time out of no time to meal prep for a week and the food will get spoilt due to our erratic power supply. Waste of food, time, energy, and money.
When I’m with my family, I also had to worry about how to make their meals fit into my lifestyle or cook 2 different meals which is a lot of work! but I was determined to make it work.
I did not want to go back to wearing girdle or body shaper. I wanted to be able to wear my lovely dresses and not have to suck in my tummy. I was determined to do anything to lose weight sustainably so I can reduce my chances of developing chronic medical diseases.
Things Started to Click
Eventually, I found a Nutrition Course that taught me about nutrition and how to fit it into my lifestyle. It was a breath of fresh air!
My mindset changed radically and I started implementing the simple things that truly made a big difference.
Putting everything I’ve learned together, I found my sweet spot.
I lost the weight and belly fat and I’ve maintained it for 3 years.
My medical experience and personal struggles are what inspired me to take control of my health and learn which foods were wreaking havoc on my body and how best to reverse it using a personalized approach that factors in my busy schedule.
How I live now
I eat what I want when I want and I eat a lot. I eat all classes of food including the dreaded carbohydrates – Rice, pasta, garri, bread etc but I also eat my healthy fats, proteins, and veggies.
I no longer have to cook different meals for myself and my family because I have the right formula to give everyone a win-win
Meal prepping is so dialed in for me. I have my personalized approach to meal prepping despite my insane schedule and erratic power supply. Gosh!!! this alone is a lifesaver!
I exercise – but not as much as you think. In fact, I cannot exercise for more than 20 mins at a stretch and I do it in the comfort of my home because I just cannot fit in going to the gym into my already busy schedule.
I’m comfortable in my body – it feels like me in here!
I no longer have to skip events or pictures because I’m embarrassed by my weight.
I have loads of energy and I am more productive than I’ve ever been in my life.
Even my spouse can’t stop complimenting me. He keeps saying I’m totally different from the woman he met 6 years ago both internally and externally. What more can I ask for?
